Event Details

NCACC President Brenda Howerton of Durham County and members of the 100 Counties Helping Our Children Thrive Task Force invite county officials to register to attend one of three child welfare regional convenings this December and January.

The convenings will provide a level set understanding of the state’s current system of child welfare and county responsibilities, actionable county-level data and select best practices, and an awareness of the 2017 Family/Child Protection and Accountability Act (Rylan’s Law). Meeting attendees will have the opportunity to provide comments for the Social Services Regional Supervision and Collaboration Working Group, which is the group established pursuant to Session Law 2017-41 (House Bill 630) to make recommendations to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.”

Speakers will include representatives of the NC Department of Health and Human Services, UNC School of Government, and the NCACC, with panel discussions led by elected representatives of the judiciary and Boards of Commissioners, social services attorneys and child welfare staff.

Counties are encouraged to register a team of county commissioners, county management, and social services child welfare leadership. County commissioners who attend will receive 3 credits toward Local Elected Leaders Academy (LELA) recognition.
